Since joining the Ontario Public Service (OPS) in 1991, Landsay Tom has worked in various Ministries including Transportation and Attorney General before ending up at his current role at the Associate Deputy Minister’s Office, ServiceOntario in the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services. He came to the OPS in an unstructured, temporary role without representation and has since worked various secondments after being transitioned to a permanent, AMAPCEO-represented position, giving him a variety of perspectives on workplace cultures.
His involvement with AMAPCEO began in 2017 when he was recruited as an Alternate Delegate in College Park. Inspired by the training, networking, and understanding what was accomplished at the Annual Delegate Conference, he applied to be a Delegate next year. He has since taken on roles as a Workplace Representative and Worker Co-Chair of 777 Bay Street’s Joint Health and Safety Committee.
As District Director of College Park, Landsay’s key priorities will be on signing up new members and engaging them as activists. He believes that many are not aware of the benefits of membership, both in terms of access to communications and information, and how increased membership secures greater representation for College Park. He hopes to increase the understanding of the wealth of information and services that AMAPCEO offers.
But engagement isn’t the only thing Landsay’s building! In his spare time, he can usually be found working on renovation projects, including a cabin up North that he built with a friend.
