
August 1 is recognized as Emancipation Day, the day when the Slavery Abolition Act of 1813 became law across the British Empire, including Canada on August 1, 1834. On this day, the practice of slavery officially ended for millions of African people and their descendants in Canada and around the world.

The Black Caucus invite you to the event “Celebrating Black Excellence, Joy, Strength & Resilience,” on Thursday, August 1 at noon ET to honour this important day. This online event is open to all AMAPCEO members .
Pick up an Emancipation Day button
The Black Caucus is also distributing a button to recognize Emancipation Day. If you are interested in a button, we encourage you to contact our office or speak to local activists to request a package to distribute at your workplace.

Members in downtown Toronto can also come to the AMAPCEO office to pick up buttons and other materials.
