This 2026 OPS-wide Emancipation Day Gathering hosted by AMAPCEO Black Caucus in collaboration with BOPsers, FrancoNoir.e, GovTechON and SAOne is set for Thursday July 30 from noon to 2:30pm ET.
Featuring Dr. ABC and Jam Gamble, this important event provides us with the opportunity to honour the powerful history, courage, resilience, and contributions of people of African descent in Canada. It recognizes the generations who resisted enslavement, those who sought freedom and built new lives, and the leaders, innovators, activists, artists, public servants, changemakers and others who continue to shape our communities today.
The 2026 theme, "Roots of Freedom, Futures of Power," celebrates this rich legacy while looking ahead with optimism and purpose. It recognizes that the struggle for freedom laid the foundation for generations of leadership, creativity, excellence, and community-building. Inspired by the vision of the Obama Presidential Center, a global symbol of Black achievement, civic engagement, leadership, and institution building. This year’s theme reminds us that we can create lasting change when we invest in our history, stories, our youth, and our collective power.
Grounded in the principles of Recognition, Justice, and Development, this gathering will bring colleagues together to reflect on shared history, celebrate Black excellence, and reaffirm our commitment to honouring the past and strengthening the pathways that support thriving, empowering futures for many generations to come.
