Though Election Day in Ontario is just 84 days away, you would be forgiven for thinking we are already in the thick of a campaign.
All three parties now have leaders who are touring Ontario hosting campaign-style events and making announcements. The urgency to complete work before the writ drops has become palpable throughout our workplaces.
AMAPCEO has always been a non-partisan union, and we will remain that way. Twenty-five years after our creation, we still believe in a professional and independent public service that can give advice to the government regardless of which party is in power.
As a union representing public service professionals, we also have a duty to speak in support of our public service values, and to advocate for the issues that matter to us all. This election will be no different. Over the coming months, you can expect to hear from AMAPCEO about the election and some issues members should consider as Ontario goes to the polls.
We’ll be asking you to think about – and speak with your friends and family about – the parties’ platforms and what each party’s vision is for public services for a growing province. As a union, we also play a vital role in shaping our communities, so we will be asking you to think about others, specifically a fair and inclusive economy, and the growing crisis of inequality in our society. You can read more about some of AMAPCEO’s public policy priorities in our 2018 budget submission, available here.
In the coming weeks, we will be asking each of the parties questions on these subjects and sharing their responses with you.
AMAPCEO has successfully negotiated contracts under New Democrat, Progressive Conservative, and Liberal governments over the past 25 years. Rest assured that regardless of the outcome on June 7, AMAPCEO will continue to build constructive, working relationships to advocate on behalf of our members.
Sincerely,
Dave Bulmer
President
