It is an understatement to say that it has been a long, tumultuous four years since the last provincial election. During this time, many of us have undergone a significant reshaping of our workplaces, our lives, and our priorities.
With election day in just over a week and advanced voting well underway, the people of Ontario now have an opportunity to have their say on what the next four years will look like.
AMAPCEO is a non-partisan union—we will not tell you who to vote for. What we will do, however, is strongly encourage you to consider which party will serve your best interests—the best interests of Ontario’s public servants and the invaluable public services you provide.
Last month, we launched our AMAPCEO Votes campaign, which provides some voting information and identifies issues of importance to our members. We also wrote to all the major political parties asking them where they stand on these issues. On our website, you can take a look at which parties responded and what those responses have been to date.
Ontario’s public sector workers have gone above and beyond to provide the people of this province with high-quality public services over the past four years. You have delivered outstanding results under challenging circumstances with resources limited by hiring freezes and outsourcing. Sadly, the thanks you have received for your hard work is an unconstitutional wage cap, and most recently, total intransigence on the issue of a flexible workplace of the future.
As your union, AMAPCEO has fought and will continue to fight on these fronts, regardless of the outcome of next week’s election. We are proud to be the voice of Ontario’s Professional Employees—all 15, 000 of you—however, when it comes to electing government, your vote is your voice.
I encourage you to make yourselves heard.
Stronger together,
Dave Bulmer
