Today, AMAPCEO held its first-ever virtual Annual Delegates’ Conference (ADC). More than 200 elected Delegates representing each of AMAPCEO’s eleven Districts, eight bargaining units, and a membership base of over 14,000 professionals logged on to discuss important union matters, honour outstanding activists, and set the course for AMAPCEO’s new five-year strategic plan, Building on a Strong Foundation.

Among some of the notable highlights during today’s business, Delegates reviewed and approved the union’s 2021 annual budget; passed minor amendments to By-laws 1 and 2; and adopted a new By-law 11, which sets out the process and cycle for regular reviews of compensation for the Board of Directors.

The theme of this year’s conference is 'Together with Purpose.' President Dave Bulmer opened the conference by welcoming delegates to the virtual ADC and thanking AMAPCEO members for their hard work and professionalism throughout this difficult year.

“The citizens of Ontario rely on us for seamless delivery of their valued public services. During the pandemic, they’ve relied on us for calm during a time of chaos and for leadership during a time of confusion,” he said.

“And, in the same way we’ve been there for them – AMAPCEO has been here for you,” Bulmer continued. “In 2020, we’ve kept the fabric that binds us all together. And, together with purpose, we’ve protected our 14,000 plus members: with 98% of our membership working remotely; with no loss of permanent jobs; with temporary work remaining stable; with greater access to family status and personal health accommodations; and a minimum worksite-return notice period that’s benefitted all unions.”

Bulmer concluded by looking ahead. “We have controlled a great deal of our destiny. In a mere 36 days, the year 2020 will be in our rear-view mirrors, and though the challenges of the pandemic may still linger, we will have a unique opportunity to shape the workplace of the future.”

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
