Today at the 21st Annual Delegates' Conference, over 200 AMAPCEO Delegates from across Ontario voted to elect Cynthia Watt as Vice President for a two-year term.
Watt and outgoing Vice President Sally Jurcaba both ran for the position, and both highlighted goals for AMAPCEO that included building an engaged membership base, strengthening labour solidarity and increasing the delivery of member education over the the next two years.
This year marked a historic election for AMAPCEO. The change in leadership occurred after delegates participated in our first-ever electronic vote.
Watt will begin her term this January, replacing Sally Jurcaba. In her candidate speech, the Vice President-elect, presented an engagement platform that strives to build grassroots leaders, working toward a vision for AMAPCEO that, Watt said, "understands the diverse needs of members, and the power of collective action.”
As a Senior Policy Advisor, Watt, who lives in Ajax with her spouse Jamie and two children, works with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, and has been an OPS employee for over 16 years. She is a veteran to leadership positions after seven years of involvement representing college students in Ontario, with the College Students’ Alliance during the 1990s. In her home community Watt is Girl Guide leader, and has been for five years.
Along with the election of Vice President, delegates also voted in a new Secretary, Glynn Robinson, who will vacate his current position as a Member at Large, to join the Executive, along with Dave Bulmer, President and Chris Harper, Treasurer. Delegates also elected new Directors at large for a two-year term, Peter Dewar and Neil MacAskill, who join Dianne Colville Lee, and Hugh Montgomerie on the Board.
Delegates also participated in fruitful debate and voted to approve many resolutions, and a budget for 2016.
