Earlier this month, AMAPCEO hosted its annual Day at the Legislature, where AMAPCEO executives met with representatives of all four parties, including the President of the Treasury Board, the Minister of Finance, all opposition party leaders, and the Secretary of Cabinet, to discuss issues pertinent to AMAPCEO members.
This event presented an opportunity for AMAPCEO to rekindle previous relationships and to build new ones with elected representatives the union had not been able to meet with in-person prior to the pandemic.
The event consisted of a series of meetings and an evening reception hosted by AMAPCEO in the Legislature, which was attended by dozens of Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) from all parties, staff from all caucuses, as well as Ministers and MPPs.
The major themes stressed by AMAPCEO throughout all conversations with elected officials included:
- the value of strong public services and the importance of the work AMAPCEO members do;
- ending the government’s Bill 124 appeal;
- the role hybrid work must play in the public service of the future; and
- the costliness and inefficacy of outsourcing public service work.
Overall, AMAPCEO Day was a tremendous success. Our invitations to meet were accepted by all our targeted representatives, the turnout at the AMAPCEO reception was strong, and the officials we met with were receptive to the issues we presented or at least open to further conversations about these issues in the future.
