President Dave Bulmer spoke before the Ontario Legislature’s Social Policy Committee on Bill 56, which would consider legislation to enact the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan.
AMAPCEO welcomed this Government’s initiative to establish an Ontario Retirement Pension Plan (ORPP) and the opportunity to comment on the need to ensure that dignified retirement is available to all Ontarians. In his presentation, Bulmer laid out a series of recommendations to ensure the Plan is truly effective. AMAPCEO’s position is that the proposed pension plan must be a universal plan with mandatory enrollment for all Ontarians.
We have also been clear that we will not support any proposal that negatively impacts the current pensions of our members; our desire is to see that our access to pensions is extended to others.
During his presentation, Bulmer said “Making the proposed Ontario Retirement Pension Plan universal is key to ensure that dignified retirement is a priority and available to all Ontarians.” He added, “The Government has an opportunity to act, and end a cycle of poverty that follows retirees after their years of dedicated employment and contributions to our communities.”
