The government’s plan to expand the types of alcohol available to purchase at convenience stores, supermarkets, and other big box stores presents a threat to the future of the LCBO, to good public sector jobs, and to the revenue that funds our healthcare, education, and greater social safety net.
AMAPCEO stands with these dedicated OPSEU-represented workers in their defense of vital public services.
Since the strike began, the government has not only refused to negotiate on key issues, but its leadership has also actually attempted to undermine the position of the union by purporting to speak for workers who oppose the strike.
Involvement to this degree clearly indicates this is not just a labour dispute.
This is the government’s latest step in their long march toward privatization—one whose previous steps included the passing of unconstitutional Bill 124, the institution of a public service hiring freeze, and an expansion of health care procedures that can be performed at private clinics.
"Time and time again, this government has demonstrated that it is determined to undermine public services, even if the province suffers as a result," said President Dave Bulmer.
"Time and time again, AMAPCEO has called for an investment in public services and the public good. Today is no exception."
AMAPCEO stands in solidarity with OPSEU members at the LCBO and with all unions defending public services. We believe the public sector should be strong, secure, and well-funded into the future—for every Ontarian’s sake.
