More than 200 Delegates representing AMAPCEO’s eleven geographic districts and eight bargaining units will gather for the union’s Annual Delegates’ Conference (ADC) in Toronto in just two weeks.

Delegates at the ADC are responsible for approving the union’s annual operating budget, accepting audited financial statements, and considering policy and procedure resolutions submitted by members. The agenda also includes proposed changes to the AMAPCEO Constitution resulting from an automatic quinquennial review, updates to union’s resolutions process, and a change that would allow Associate Members to serve in certain activist roles.

Dozens of recently elected Delegates will enjoy educational programming on the first day of the Conference to develop a stronger voice in their workplaces and better advocate for fairness.

On the final day of the Conference, Delegates will cast their ballots in the election for AMAPCEO’s President/CEO. There are three candidates running for the next two-year term of this position: Dave Bulmer (incumbent), Matthias Nunno, and K.P.Thottam.

Yesterday, Conference organizers announced several special guests who will be speaking at the ADC. Former Mayor of Peterborough Diane Therrien, a former AMAPCEO member in the Ontario Public Service, Therrien will be covering her journey from public servant to elected representative and her experience with politics today. Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ Ontario Director Randy Robinson will moderate a panel discussion Rob Gillezeau (Assistant Professor of Economic Analysis and Policy at University of Toronto), Emily Leedham (Reporter with PressProgress), and Vanmala Subramaniam (Reporter with The Globe and Mail) on how media report on labour issues today.

This year marks the union’s 30th anniversary, and organizers have also planned a series of special tributes over the three-day Conference to commemorate this important milestone.

The ADC is AMAPCEO’s highest governing body and consists of the 15 members of the Board of Directors, Delegates elected by each of the union’s geographic districts, and an additional Delegate from each Broader Public Sector bargaining unit. They are joined by a small number of Delegates-at-Large, Observers, and various guests.

This year’s Conference will take place December 7–9 in downtown Toronto.

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
