How do we involve more members in union activities? How do we develop the next generation of workplace leaders? And what impact will artificial intelligence have on workers?
Those were some of the key questions explored at last week’s Activists and Leaders Forum (ALF), a twice-yearly gathering where AMAPCEO activists from across the province meet to share ideas, build skills, and discuss challenges facing members.
President Dave Bulmer opened the forum with a discussion of labour relations issues, including the union’s ongoing campaign against the return-to-office edict. Leah Rowlinson, an AMAPCEO staff Labour Relations Specialist who supports member engagement initiatives, then shared feedback from a pre-forum survey on how the union can strengthen membership engagement.
Guest speaker Hadrian Mertins-Kirkwood of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives discussed the growing impact of artificial intelligence and how workers and unions can play a role in shaping of the introduction of new technologies to the workplace.
The ALF concluded with interactive workshops where participants shared experiences, developed practical skills, and explored new approaches they can apply in their local work.
