Peggy Nash, Chair of the Centre for Labour Management Relations (CLMR) at Ryerson’s Ted Rogers School of Business speaking at ALF
AMAPCEO representatives gathered in Toronto for the Activists and Leaders Forum (ALF), which was held on Wednesday, June 12. This was the second of three forums for 2019. The ALF is an opportunity for AMAPCEO representatives from across the province to meet, learn and share information that helps to strengthen our union. Participants represent all 12 AMAPCEO Districts, equity caucuses/circles, every bargaining unit, and the Young Workers and Retiree Caucuses.
In the morning, Community Leads received a labour relations update from President Dave Bulmer and District reports from Directors or their Vice Chairs. Bulmer highlighted the many challenges AMAPCEO faces on several fronts and praised the good work of Districts at a member engagement level. Districts reported continued high levels of grass roots engagement, both through formal governance meetings and social activities. In addition to receiving a full afternoon of education from AMAPCEO’s member engagement staff, Wednesday’s event also included two speakers.
Keynote Speaker, Peggy Nash, Chair of the Centre for Labour Management Relations (CLMR) at Ryerson’s Ted Rogers School of Business, described the work of the CLMR, which AMAPCEO supports through a financial donation and whose Advisory Committee includes President Dave Bulmer. The Centre realizes its vision of shaping the future of work to be contemporary, collaborative, and fair by working with a variety of stakeholders from labour, academic, management, and other backgrounds.
The ALF also heard from Toronto Environmental Alliance Executive Director Emmay Mah and their Campaigns Director Heather Marshall about how they build coalitions with the labour movement to tackle climate change. AMAPCEO proudly sponsors TEA and its good work.
