This morning, the government announced it was implementing a hiring freeze across Ontario's agencies, boards, and commissions.
Staffing in the province’s agencies, boards, and commissions must be driven by need, not political posturing. Ontario is growing, and this decision will affect the quality of the public services that the people of our province rely on.
It is also more fallout from the government’s poorly considered Return to Office policy, which affects not just the public service, but these agencies, too. Many of them have little-to-no physical space. Now taxpayers will have to foot the bill—upwards of hundreds of millions of dollars—on real estate bringing productive professionals back to the office for no legitimate reason.
Instead of investing in more buildings, this province should be leaning into remote and hybrid work and investing in the public services Ontarians need.
Stronger together,
