December 6 marks Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, honoring the 14 women who lost their lives in the 1989 Polytechnique Montréal tragedy—an act of violence fueled by misogyny.
On this day, we remember all those affected by gender-based violence and reaffirm our commitment to ending it.
Below are some ways to honour the victims and join the call to action:
- Wear a white ribbon: Create one at home or order online as a symbol of remembrance.
- Observe a moment of silence: Reflect on the impact of gender-based violence and the ongoing need for change.
- Attend a vigil in your community: Participate in local gatherings to remember and stand in solidarity.
- Engage on social media: Follow Women and Gender Equality Canada (@WAGE_FEGC) on X, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn and share their post for the National Day of Remembrance.
