On a per-capita basis, Ontario’s expenditures on public services are the lowest in the country, and the public service is the smallest, Vice-President Cynthia Watt reminded the government on Friday.
Watt was presenting AMAPCEO’s recommendations for the Ontario Budget to the government’s Standing Committee of Finance & Economic Affairs.
“It is commonplace to point out that Ontario has a revenue problem,” she said. “This should not be at issue. The question is how to solve the problem.”
AMAPCEO’s recommendations included three simple solutions for the next Budget:
#1. Protect public services and stabilize the Ontario Public Service by ending the hiring freeze.
#2. End legislated wage caps and engage in free and fair collective bargaining.
#3. Increase revenue to address Ontario’s structural deficit.
