The OPS Employer’s Acceptable Use of Information & Information Technology (I&IT) Resources Policy outlines your use of I&IT resources in the OPS workplace. First approved in 2011, the Policy is now under a scheduled review.
Drawing on the experiences of AMAPCEO membership and staff, the Association took the opportunity to provide the Employer with our feedback on the Policy, focussing on four major areas that require revision.
We believe the Policy should be updated to:
- Adopt a realistic approach to the personal use of IT resources;
- Remove restrictions to Web 2.0 platforms and social media;
- Clarify the policy’s application to your use of your own devices in the workplace; and
- Strengthen the rules to better protect your personal privacy.
These changes would help modernize the I&IT Acceptable Use Policy to keep pace with evolving best practices, clarify acceptable use for you and the Employer, and encourage digital literacy and collaboration in the public service.
AMAPCEO will be following the review process and will provide updates on policy revisions.
