The government's edict that all Ontario agencies, boards, and commissions must return to five days per week in-office come January 2026 has caused incredible confusion and stress as employees scramble to make arrangements accounting for this completely unnecessary step backwards.
Since August, AMAPCEO has been in touch with employers at those organizations to find out what their plans are and how those plans impact AMAPCEO members.
We now have updates for AMAPCEO members from Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), Invest Ontario, and Ontario Health.
FSRA
The FSRA Employer has informed AMAPCEO that they have determined they have enough office space for all employees to return to four-days-a-week in-office work as of October 20.
Given this information, we encourage any AMAPCEO member at FSRA who does not currently have a formal, signed remote work agreement and would like to work remotely to request one now. This includes anyone who currently has an informal arrangement to work two days remotely.
If you do not have a signed agreement and wish to continue working remotely, you must formally request a telework request via the employer’s payroll system, Workday.
For more information, review the FSRA alternative work arrangement (AWA) fact sheet .
Invest Ontario
The Invest Ontario Employer notified us last week that it has leased an additional floor at 250 Yonge Street.
Given this information, we encourage any AMAPCEO member at Invest Ontario who does not currently have a formal, signed remote work agreement and would like to work remotely to request one now. This includes anyone who currently has an informal arrangement to work two days remotely.
If you do not have a signed agreement and wish to continue working remotely, you must formally request an AWA.
Information about AWA rights under the Collective Agreement, including a template for requesting a remote work AWA and answers to frequently asked questions, can be found on the Invest Ontario AWA fact sheet.
Ontario Health
As members at Ontario Health know, Ontario Health does not have sufficient space to accommodate employees and is having to temporarily resort to desk-sharing assignments as they transition back to five days a week in-office.
AMAPCEO is encouraging anyone who does not currently have a formal, signed remote work agreement and would like to work remotely to request one now. This includes anyone who currently has an informal arrangement.
You can find a template to request a remote work alternative work arrangement on the AWA fact sheet for Ontario Health members.
AMAPCEO is here to support members throughout the return to office process. We continue to be in touch with these employers, and the employers of all our members at provincial agencies, boards, and commissions affected by this memo, which represents a dramatic overreach and an erosion of these organizations’ arms-length nature.
AMAPCEO also continues our fight for flexibility for members who want it and for a modern, innovative workplace. We urge all members to keep an eye on their inboxes and on our Remote Work Works! page for updates.
