With Labour Day on the horizon, planning for the months ahead is underway. While AMAPCEO expects the majority of members to remain out of the workplace, the reality is that some of our members may be returning to the office in the not-too-distant future, given that schools and daycares will be reopened in some fashion in September.
AMAPCEO reminds members that you have the ability to request accommodation under family status grounds if your work assignment is in direct competition with having to also “day parent” or “cybertutor” dependent children, or care for dependent elderly family members. If you find yourself in such a situation, you may ask for any number of accommodations, including flexible hours of work, a lightened workload, relaxed deadlines, use of partial or whole credits, or part or full-time leaves of absence with pay.
You should review your Employer’s policies and guidance documents (available on the Employer’s intranet), then speak with your reporting manager, noting what you require, and citing your Employer’s commitment to flexibility. If you run into resistance from your manager, you can contact an AMAPCEO Workplace Representative via our website or contact the AMAPCEO office at 416-595-9000 to speak with a Workplace Advisor. Either can intervene with your manager and Human Resources advisor.
Five months into this unprecedented situation, and AMAPCEO takes pride in having protected the job security of all 14,000 of our members. In addition to the family status accommodations noted above, we remain committed to doing all we can to make remote work, parenting, and family care work.
AMAPCEO leadership appreciates that circumstances can vary and so they are asking members to let them know what sorts of accommodations—other than those noted—might assist you in meeting your many responsibilities. You can submit your suggestions on our website. (You must be logged in to view this form.)
