On behalf of AMAPCEO’s 15,000 members, we congratulate the new Cabinet, and in particular, Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria, who returns at the Treasury Board Secretariat with an expanded mandate for emergency management and procurement, including the new agency Supply Ontario.
Now that Cabinet has been sworn in, we expect the Legislature to be recalled soon to pass the 2022 Ontario Budget.
The Budget includes a commitment to hybrid work in the Ontario Public Service (OPS). Of course, equitable access to a fair and standardized hybrid work process is one of the major priorities for our next OPS contract.
We are hopeful this means the OPS Employer will be less intransigent on this issue so that we can make more meaningful progress towards a deal. Before talks broke down earlier this year and we took a pause for the election period, we had reached agreement in principle on many important issues at the table.
We look forward to sitting back down with the OPS Employer, and hope to do so in the weeks ahead.
Until then, I encourage all members in the OPS to continue showing your AMAPCEO pride by:
- including the AMAPCEO logo in your work email signature,
- taking your full 45-minute lunch break (and setting your calendar and online status message to away for an “AMAPCEO Break”),
- using a union background for your virtual meetings, and
- wearing your bargaining buttons and displaying your desk cards.
We will also be holding information sessions throughout the summer months—keep an eye on your inbox for news about those.
Member News is going to take its usual summer hiatus, returning for editions on July 20 and August 17. Of course, we’ll keep you posted if anything develops.
