A full 95% of AMAPCEO members understand the importance of supporting their union to demonstrate their collective strength—and they have a large appetite for getting further involved, a large survey of the union’s membership shows. The union is releasing results as collective bargaining is either in preparations or underway in six of its eight units.

The survey was conducted last year by Abacus Data, one of Canada’s leading opinion research firms. Survey respondents represented a cross-section of the membership and its diversity. The Board of Directors received a presentation of the results from Abacus CEO Dr. David Coletto.

A strong majority of members are supportive of AMAPCEO’s efforts to defend collective agreements, improve members’ terms and conditions for employment, advocate for enhancements, and use a problem-solving approach to workplace issues.

Similarly, the union also enjoys the confidence of its members when it comes to advocacy, Coletto reports. “Members are confident AMAPCEO effectively advocates for them with employers and governments,” he says, “And [that the union] carries out communications campaigns in defense of collective agreements and supports causes important to members.”

On AMAPCEO’s five-year strategic plan, Building on a Strong Foundation, members are well aligned with the union on which values should be included. “Members give AMAPCEO good scores for [its] performance, especially professionalism, respect, integrity, and being democratic,” Coletto says.

As the union continues to ramp up its work on issues of equity both within the union and within workplaces, most AMAPCEO members are satisfied with the level of work and effort the union is putting in to advocating and upholding these values.

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
