"Activism works. So what I’m telling you to do now, is to act. Because no one is too small to make a difference.” – Greta Thunberg, 16-year-old climate change activist making waves across the globe.
I couldn’t agree more - activism does work. Something that’s true whether you’re standing up for a colleague at work as a Workplace Rep or speaking up and acting on the climate crisis.
I don’t believe it to be hyperbole to say that the climate crisis is the challenge of our times. Instead of cutting environmental programs, governments of all stripes and at all levels would do well to listen to their subject matter experts—including AMAPCEO members here in the Ontario Public Service—and to take urgent action to transition to a low-carbon economy.
Without action, the way we do our work—and the very work we do—will change dramatically. Failing to act now will only lead to major repercussions down the line.
That is why I’m encouraging you, if you are able, to take part in this event:
Friday, September 27, 2019
11 am – Rally at Queen’s Park
12 pm – March down University Avenue, up Bay Street and over to Queen’s Park
1 – 2 pm - Concert
The rally and march are hosted by Fridays for Future Toronto and supported by a diverse group of activists, union members, and grassroots organizations (including the AMAPCEO-sponsored non-profit Toronto Environmental Alliance) who recognize the imperative of a healthy planet.
I encourage each of you to join me and our Board of Directors in taking part, spreading the word, and showing our solidarity with the brave young people taking leadership on this issue.
Join the rally over your lunch hour break, or talk to your manager about using flex work, or some of your vacation or overtime credits to attend the whole event.
I’ll see you there.
Stronger together,
Dave Bulmer
President
