On September 14, AMAPCEO President Dave Bulmer was a guest panelist on the Pearson Centre webinar “The Public Service of the Future.” He joined other speakers from the labour movement and politics to discuss the effects of the pandemic on public services, and public servants, at all levels of government.
Together, they forecasted for the future of public services and those professionals who deliver it. Bulmer emphasized the dedication and remote work productivity of public servants, the need to regain public confidence through fixing our long-term care system, and the opportunity to re-shape the workplace of the future. With his focus on the latter being the enshrinement of remote work everywhere and the further ability to use satellite locations in the GTA – which in return would allow the government to save on downtown real estate – and for society to benefit as a result from a substantial reduction in the 60,000 member public service footprint on the environment and transportation systems.
