As you may have already seen, with only days left in 2022, the government filed an appeal of the Superior Court’s decision to strike down Bill 124.
AMAPCEO is disappointed that the government chose not to heed the urging of the Ontario labour community and the wisdom of the courts, both of whom have now said that Bill 124 is an infringement on collective bargaining and a violation of Charter rights.
However, we are neither surprised nor unprepared.
AMAPCEO, along with the 39 other unions making up the coalition challenging Bill 124 in court, began preparing for this move from the government as soon as the Superior court’s decision was announced.
The legal process is lengthy and complex; the date of the appeal has not yet been scheduled, but we hope to see it later this year. AMAPCEO will keep members updated by email and via the website as soon as we have new information to share.
Rest assured that your union stands united with the many public sector unions impacted by Bill 124. Our shared fight to overturn this unconstitutional law will continue in the courts for as long as it takes.
