AMAPCEO is extremely proud to announce that employees at the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) voted with 86% support to unionize with AMAPCEO.

The Information and Privacy Commissioner is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly that provides oversight of Ontario’s access and privacy laws. IPC employees provide integral services to the people of Ontario—IPC employees’ skills, dedication, and expertise allow Ontarians to trust that their access and privacy rights will be respected.

Forming a union with AMAPCEO was a true community effort, with support that only grew as the campaign went on. IPC employees made this happen together, and stood strong and united, even in the face of delays and challenges along the way.

“I want to congratulate IPC employees on their decision, and to welcome them to AMAPCEO,” said President Dave Bulmer.

“Like a growing number of professionals in the public sector, IPC employees knew they needed a voice in their workplace if they are to continue to provide the high-quality public services we all value. Today, through the results of their votes, they have made their voices heard by joining AMAPCEO’s professional membership of 16, 000 strong.”

In the coming weeks, IPC employees will be officially welcomed into the union and will later begin the process of negotiating their first collective agreement, supported by AMAPCEO executive and staff.

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
