Virginia Barnett (right), long-time activist from the Ministry of Finance in Oshawa, is leaving the OPS on June 30 to enjoy her retirement. Barnett has been involved with the union for years in several different volunteer and elected roles. She represented her community as a Delegate and Workplace Representative and sat on the Board’s Workplace Relations Committee for many years. Under the former governance model, she served as the Finance Chapter Chair.
But she was perhaps best known in her role as the AMAPCEO-Ministry Employee Relations Committee (AMERC) Chair for Finance and for her tireless advocacy for disability rights.
President Dave Bulmer reflected on the indelible impact Barnett has had on AMAPCEO:
“Virginia was both a strong voice for her community in Oshawa and her Ministry of Finance colleagues, and an incredible champion of disability rights. She will be dearly missed, and I wish her all the best in her retirement.”
