TORONTO – At its Annual Conference, representatives from across Ontario voted for a new President, electing Dave Bulmer to represent 12,000 professional public sector employees.
Two candidates ran for the top position and presented a platform for continued action, mobilization, labour solidarity and education to lead AMAPCEO for the next two years. The change in leadership occurred after Gary Gannage, who held the top spot as President for 19-years, announced his retirement earlier this fall after 34 years in the Ontario Public Service.
In a passionate speech the President-elect, Bulmer, said “I am dedicated to building our AMAPCEO community, an empowering community of rank and file members that work together with purpose to defend our members and workers’ rights.” With the opportunity to implement his platform, Bulmer added, “The coalition we've forged with other unions must be cemented and other alliances with local labour councils and the Canadian Labour Congress must be sought to combat the erosion of good jobs and Ontario’s great public service.”
As a professional educator, Bulmer, who lives in London, works with the Ministry of Health and LongTerm Care, and been an OPS employee for 27 years. He is currently ending a two-year term as Treasurer for the union. He ran on a platform that seeks to build more active, direct participation of members in the Association.
Along with the election of a new President, delegates also elected Chris Harper as Treasurer and three new members to the Board of Directors including: Dianne Colville, Hugh Montgomerie and Glynn Robinson, all of which will hold a two year term.
