Jennifer Harewood appointed as interim Director for Front District
With the close of nominations last week, Angela Freeman has been acclaimed the new District Director for University/Toronto South until December 31, 2021.
Freeman first joined the AMAPCEO Board of Directors in 2017 to represent Mowat/Hearst and has served over the past three years as Board Chair. When Mowat/Hearst was dissolved and the Districts reorganized in April, Freeman was appointed the interim Director for the new Front District, where most Mowat/Hearst members had moved.
Freeman is a Senior Policy Advisor with the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries’ Tourism Policy Unit. The Unit develops policy options and programs for the province’s tourism industry. Freeman’s workplace is now in University/Toronto South.
The University/Toronto South by-election was initiated on the resignation of District Director Peter Dewar, who left the Board in mid-June after accepting a non-AMAPCEO position in the Ontario Public Service.
Because fewer than six months remain in Freeman’s term as the interim Director for Front, the Constitution foregoes a by-election and instead directs the appointment of the District’s Vice-Chair to serve for the rest of the term. President Dave Bulmer has confirmed Vice-Chair Jennifer Harewood’s interest and she will fill the position until its term ends on December 31, 2020.
A long-time AMAPCEO activist, Harewood is a Senior Policy Advisor with the Ministry of Education’s Implementation and Review Unit. The Unit is responsible for leading the ongoing cycle of curriculum review, revision, and implementation. Harewood has more than 20 years’ experience in the OPS.
Harewood will join the Board for its next meeting. Delegates in the Front District will convene to name a new Vice-Chair later this month.
