“Sorry” seems to be the hardest word.
Even though his government has lost two court cases over its wage-suppressing Bill 124, and have moved to repeal it entirely, the Premier is still refusing to apologize for steamrolling our Charter-protected rights.
And while AMAPCEO has won an additional 6.5 per cent over three years for our members in the Ontario Public Service as a remedy for Bill 124, the government has still not given a mandate to the employers of our other bargaining units to negotiate equivalent wage increases for those members.
Simply put, even with the thaw of Bill 124, the chill remains.
That means we must continue to remain strong and united if we are to make progress for the members of our other 12 bargaining units.
Ontario Health – Quality Unit and Supply Ontario
In addition to the Ontario Public Service, members at Ontario Health – Quality Unit and Supply Ontario were the only AMAPCEO bargaining units to reach a collective agreement during Bill 124’s wage-restraint period.
We have a re-opener clause in both contracts and have begun meeting with the employers of these two units to seek remedies for Bill 124.
Our other bargaining units
We are at various points in the bargaining process with the employers of our other bargaining units. Our goal is to use the repeal of Bill 124 and the remedy we secured for the Ontario Public Service to make fair and reasonable gains.
But we only defeated Bill 124 by coming together—and we will only secure more by staying united and demonstrating our strength.
Show your AMAPCEO pride in your workplace. Support your local bargaining team. Chat with your fellow members.
Let’s continue to show our solidarity and let’s secure what we deserve.
Stronger together,
Dave Bulmer, President / CEO
