Press Release: Ontario's public service professionals vote ‘yes’ to four-year contract

TORONTO, June 28, 2017 -- AMAPCEO members in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) have voted overwhelmingly to accept a four-year ‘roll-over’ of their existing contract.

In a ratification vote that was conducted on line from Friday, June 23 through Tuesday, June 27, 94% of those voting approved the tentative agreement.

AMAPCEO represents more than 13,000 public service professionals who work directly for the Ontario government, in all ministries and in all regions of the province—among them, policy and financial analysts, auditors, IT specialists, scientists and economists.

“AMAPCEO is a member-driven union,” said President Dave Bulmer. “I am pleased that our members voted in favour of stability and a package that includes fair compensation increases after several years of freezes. This is a good deal for both the public and for public servants.”

The roll-over extends the existing collective agreement until March 31, 2022 and includes a 7.5% salary increase over the next four years.  The agreement also seals in a number of other important gains towards meeting the needs of today’s workers and their families.

“Having four years until our contract expires gives stability to our members, but also gives the union an opportunity to focus on education and membership engagement,” said Vice-President Cynthia Watt. “Now is a great time for members to get involved and learn new skills to build an even stronger union.”

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
