Redistricting to ensure fair representation for members
Over the past two years, the Ontario Public Service (OPS) Employer has changed the standard work locations for many AMAPCEO members' home positions. This caused an imbalance between AMAPCEO's geographically-allocated districts.
In response, at its last meeting, the AMAPCEO Board of Directors approved a suite of changes, including to some district names, boundaries, and communities.
Districts are the foundation of AMAPCEO’s governance structure: each member belongs to one of eleven geographic Districts, according to their standard workplace location, and participate in the governance of the union by electing their District's Director and the Delegates they wish to represent them at the Annual Delegates' Conference (ADC).
The routine changes to the AMAPCEO districts are designed to better balance AMAPCEO's geographic governance model to ensure every member continues to have fair and effective representation and equal voice within your union.
If you are a member of a district that has been affected by these changes, you will have received an email specifying your new district name and your District Director.
The full list of changes can be found below:
- Bay Street district is now known as Bay
- Jarvis district is now Jarvis/Yonge
- University/Toronto South district is now University
- In Eastern Ontario, the Durham Region community is now Durham
- In GTA North, the North York/Newmarket/Aurora community is now named North York
- In Western Ontario:
- Halton/Peel/Barrie/Penetanguishene community is now Halton/Peel/Simcoe/York
- The London and Windsor communities have merged to London/Windsor
- The St. Catharines/Niagara and Hamilton/Burlington communities have merged to St. Catharines/Hamilton
AMAPCEO members can see their district (and community, if applicable) by signing into their Member Dashboard.
Members affected by a renaming or boundary change will also be notified directly by email.
Moved delegates who have terms running until May 2023 will continue as Delegates for their new district. Nominations for delegate vacancies will open soon.
