Earlier this week, the government passed legislation that will allow private clinics to offer certain publicly funded surgeries and procedures. The government has also signalled its intention to “significantly” expand the use of private health care providers.
As professionals working in the public interest, AMAPCEO knows the importance of supporting high-quality public services. Time and time again, AMAPCEO has joined the chorus of voices urging the government to invest in the existing public health care system, rather than pumping public money into privately-run clinics.
Our fellow unions in the Ontario Health Coalition have organized a community referendum for Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27 to give the people of this province an opportunity to have their voices heard on whether they support public hospital services being privatized to for-profit hospitals and clinics.
