Today, nearly 3,500 AMAPCEO members joined President Dave Bulmer on a special telephone town hall to learn of the union’s advocacy during COVID-19.
In addition to fielding several members’ questions, Bulmer also shared some labour relations updates. Among the highlights:
- AMAPCEO has advocated that its members working from home may need relief from full-time duties to tend to the care of loved ones when no other option is available. As a result, the OPS Employer is reminding all managers to be flexible under family status grounds.
- For the very small number of members who’ve been released from the office without work to perform, the union has secured paid leaves of absence with no loss of income, pension, or benefits.
- AMAPCEO has advocated that all OPS fixed-term professionals—approximately 10% of the union’s membership—be protected throughout the pandemic, and that anyone with contracts ending after March 16 be extended until at least September 1. Bulmer expects to hear from Secretary of Cabinet Steven Davidson on this soon.
Dozens of members submitted additional questions by phone or online that time did not allow for; look for additional answers in upcoming editions in the Weekly Member News.
