I’m writing with a few important updates on our Remote work works campaign.
Petition update
On Monday, we reached more than 10,000 signatures on our petition to the Secretary of Cabinet telling her that remote work works. That’s more than half the total AMAPCEO membership. Let’s keep that momentum going: sign the petition, and share it with your colleagues, friends, and family.
New virtual backgrounds, posters, and more
On our new Remote work works campaign page, you’ll also find virtual backgrounds, posters, and more.
Use the virtual backgrounds on your next Teams meeting, the profile picture to update your Microsoft 365 account, and print off the posters to decorate your workplace. (Don’t have access to a home printer? AMAPCEO activists will begin receiving print copies of these posters this week for distribution in the workplace and at union events.)
Save the date: Thursday, September 18 at noon
And save the date of Thursday, September 18 at noon for our All Out for Remote Work event, where we will deliver our petitions to the Secretary of Cabinet, letting her know that remote work works! More details to come, but RSVP now so you get the latest updates:
Alternative work arrangement requests
More than 2,200 members in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) have requested new alternative work arrangement agreements to formalize a compressed work week and/or remote work. If you haven’t requested a formal agreement yet, you can use our online tool to generate your request.
We are starting to see approvals for new formal agreements come in. If you have requested one and haven’t heard back yet, please send a follow up email to your director/manager and request a response by a particular date.
Some members have reported hearing from directors that their requests are pending further direction from the OPS Employer. We have launched a coordinated strategy at the AMAPCEO-Ministry Employee Relations Committee and the AMAPCEO-Central Employee Relations Committee tables to address this directly with the OPS Employer. All alternative work agreement requests must be considered in good faith, and members have the right to dispute any denials (which can include a lack of response within a reasonable time). We successfully defended this right—unique to us in the OPS—during the latest round of collective bargaining.
Together, our momentum will continue. We all know remote work works, and we’re fighting for flexibility for all.
Stronger together,
Dave Bulmer
President & CEO
