Non-Partisanship Policy Statement

Preamble

AMAPCEO members have prided themselves on their collective commitment to non-partisanship since the union’s inception in the early 1990’s.

Throughout its existence, the Union’s members have linked the core values of professionalism and non-partisanship as their preferred method of advocacy and representation.

The union’s purposeful policy approach to maintaining a non-partisan stance has successfully afforded its members the integrity needed to serve governments of all stripes and enabled the union itself to equitably respect its diverse membership and their varied political, religious, cultural or geo-political backgrounds.

Policy Statement

AMAPCEO takes no political side or stance in relation to provincial or federal party politics, nor any political side or stance in regard to acts of war or terrorism, or in conflicts involving religious, cultural, or geo-political strife.

The Union’s non-partisan policy stance in no way precludes it from speaking truth to power to the government of the day.

Postscript

Though individuals have a personal right to partisan opinion and/or action, the Union must always act in the best interests of the collective. Likewise, the Union’s primary concern must always be its members’ collective agreement provisions and protections and their broader terms and conditions of employment.

The Union’s strength is in its numbers, its diversity, and its ability to build and maintain unity. Its enduring commitment to non-partisanship protects the collective from that which might divide it and allows it to focus on those common interests which unite it.

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
