The ability to collectively negotiate the terms and conditions of your employment, including your compensation, is an important advantage of being a unionized professional.
When employees negotiate together, they achieve better results and in turn, promote fairness and consistency at work. Collective bargaining of compensation also reduces the wage gap for women and for racialized and young workers.
Your Collective Agreement defines the parameters of your salary in Articles 19, 44, 45, & 50.

Your salary
Your salary is based on your position’s classification. Each classification has a minimum salary, a maximum salary, and three ‘steps’ in between. This is commonly called the salary grid. You can see the ranges for each on pages 62–64 of your Collective Agreement.
Your current Collective Agreement
The union may be able to negotiate increases to each salary range (and the steps within) as a part of collective bargaining with the Employer—this is called an across-the-board increase.
Your 2018–2023 Collective Agreement between AMAPCEO and Waypoint sets across-the-board increases to all salary ranges (and the steps within) of:
- 1.4% on April 1, 2018;
- 1.75% on April 1, 2019;
- 1.75% on April 1, 2020;
- 1.75% on April 1, 2021; and
- an increase equal to what is negotiated in the central agreement between OPSEU and the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA), effective on April 1, 2022.
See Article 44 of your Collective Agreement for details.
Salary increases and grid progression
In addition to any across-the-board increases negotiated with the Employer, you will also advance along the steps within the salary range for your position until you reach the maximum. This is called “grid progression.” There are five steps for each classification. See the AMAPCEO Pay Grid (pages 62–64) of your Collective Agreement.
Full-time employees
If you are a full-time employee and you are not on an unpaid leave of absence of longer than 30 days, you will progress to the next step of the range for your classification every year until you reach the maximum. This change to your salary will apply on the anniversary of when you were hired.
Temporary employees
If you are a temporary employee, you will progress to the next step of the range for your classification for every 1885 hours that you have worked until you reach the maximum.
If you are on a pregnancy or parental leave
You will continue to advance along the steps in the salary grid during your pregnancy and/or parental leave.
