Les services gouvernementaux peuvent être complexes, surtout dans une langue qui n’est pas la nôtre.

Des codes de prévention des incendies aux renseignements médicaux, en passant par les horaires de transport en commun et les dates des tribunaux, les services publics sont quelques-uns des éléments les plus importants à comprendre dans notre vie de tous les jours. Les services gouvernementaux peuvent être complexes, surtout dans une langue qui n’est pas la nôtre.

Conformément à la Loi sur les services en français, les Ontariennes et les Ontariens ont le droit d’avoir accès sans délai à des services publics de qualité en français, équivalents à ceux offerts en anglais. Lorsque ce n’est pas le cas, l’Unité des services en français du Bureau de l’ombudsman de l’Ontario est là pour enquêter et agir.

En tant qu’investigateur au bureau de l’ombudsman, Katherine dirige les enquêtes menées sur les plaintes déposées par les citoyens, interroge les témoins et analyse les renseignements recueillis pour élaborer des recommandations à l’intention du Commissariat aux services en français de l’Ontario.  Lorsque Katherine travaille à la résolution d’une plainte, elle examine le cas particulier du plaignant pour que justice soit faite mais elle se penche aussi sur le système de façon générale pour identifier de façon proactive toute lacune au sein des services publics et s’enquiert également de la prestation des services gouvernementaux en français. L’application de cette « lentille francophone » à la surveillance des services publics permet à l’ombudsman de résoudre les problèmes plus efficacement en normalisant les protocoles linguistiques et de traduction.

Le travail de Katherine permet aux Franco-Ontariens de travailler et de vivre dans la langue de leur identité, ce qui permet de maintenir la langue active et de protéger leur culture.


From fire codes to medical information, transit schedules, and court dates, public services are some of the most important things to understand in one’s day-to-day life. Government services can be complex parse through, especially in a language that isn’t your own tongue. 

As established by the French Language Services Act, Ontarians have the right to access quality public services in French without delay, equivalent to what is offered in English. When that isn’t the case, the French Language Services Unit in the Office of the Ontario Ombudsman is there to investigate and respond.

As an investigator with the Ombudsman’s Office, Katherine leads investigations into citizen-submitted issues, interviews witnesses, and analyzes gathered information to develop recommendations for the Ontario French Language Commissioner.  When these errors are addressed, there is not only justice for the complainant, but she also looks at the system broadly to proactively identify gaps in public services and investigates the delivery of governmental services in French. Applying this ‘Francophone lens’ to the oversight of public services allows the Ombudsman to solve problems more efficiently by standardizing language and translation protocols. 

Katherine’s work ensures that Franco-Ontarians are able to work and live in the language of their identity, which keeps the language active and protects their culture.
