We are pleased to report that AMAPCEO-represented employees at the College of Midwives of Ontario voted unanimously in favour of ratifying their collective agreement. This will be the first contract for members at the College of Midwives of Ontario, after they successfully organized their workplace in 2022.
The agreement, with a 2025-2028 term, includes 8.25% across-the-board increases over three years, the introduction of an employee pension, significant wins on work-life balance, and improvements to benefits.
Members can find the memorandum of settlement, as well as highlights of the new agreement, at amapceo.ca/bargaining/midwives. The agreement has been ratified on the Employer's end and is now in effect as the College of Midwives of Ontario members' Collective Agreement.
"This was a hard-fought first contract and we could not have done it without the support of our colleagues,” the College of Midwives of Ontario Bargaining Team shared in a statement after the ratification.
Over the past few months, members participated in several actions, including wearing blue on strategic days, greeting College of Midwives of Ontario board members outside their office to encourage them to get back to the bargaining table, and displaying posters to show their support of their Bargaining Team.
The issues the bargaining team prioritized included a respectful, fair, and transparent workplace, a process for resolving issues, and job security and protections.
AMAPCEO is grateful to College of Midwives of Ontario Bargaining Team members Victoria Marshall and Abinaya (Abi) Kalananda, and staff support Sangeeta Boondoo and Aleks Osvald.
“This is an exciting day for all members at the College of Midwives of Ontario,” said President Dave Bulmer. “By standing together and demanding better, they were able to secure a fair collective agreement and lay a strong foundation for the future.”
”This landmark agreement shows what is possible for employees at regulatory bodies and colleges when they form a union.”
In the next few weeks, AMAPCEO will be updating the website, including creating new fact sheets for College of Midwives of Ontario members.
If you have questions about the new agreement, please contact Sangeeta Boondoo at boondoo@amapceo.on.ca.
