Update

Thursday, December 13, 2018

AMAPCEO members will by now have seen the Secretary of Cabinet’s memo on this matter. While it is a pretty self-explanatory message, we wanted to highlight the following.

Transition Exit Initiative (TEI) is a provision of AMAPCEO’s OPS collective agreement and as such there are no material changes affecting our members. (Read the TEI Fact Sheet: What is the Transition Exit Initiative or TEI?). The process remains the same as always for members and the dates within the memo (January 1 to February 28, 2019) only apply to those in Management/Excluded positions, who will now have temporary access only.

AMAPCEO members may apply for TEI at any time. Those members who have previously submitted a request are being asked to confirm their submission remains on file, and if not, they’re being asked to re-submit ASAP.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact either a local Workplace Representative who can guide you through the collective agreement or contact our office directly to speak to one of our professional Workplace Advisors.

While the memo’s stated objective is to streamline the size of the OPS and to avoid involuntary job loss, the loss of good public service jobs whether they are vacant or relinquished voluntarily is nonetheless a loss to Ontario’s economy. Given the OPS is the most cost-efficient jurisdiction in the country on a per capita basis, public servants will be stretched even thinner in their efforts to provide the vital services this action is purportedly designed to protect.

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
