The National Day of Mourning occurs yearly on April 28 to honour those who have lost their lives lost or been injured in the workplace. On this day, AMAPCEO joins workers, other unions and labour organizations across the country to pause and honour the memory of those who have lost their lives, suffered injuries or faced life-altering illnesses as a result of their work.
As part of this day, AMAPCEO commits to improving health and safety, and helping to prevent future workplace tragedies. We recognize that upholding safety happens every day, and that our union’s priority is the health and safety of our members.
Regularly meeting with employers as part of Joint Health and Safety Committees, our network of trained Health, Safety and Wellness Representatives serves as our front line for identifying and mitigating hazards on behalf of their colleagues. We commit to the continuing education for our representatives, and we do so at our yearly Health and Safety Conference.

Through education, we commit to our efforts to protect one another. Our bargaining unit resources like our fact sheets ensure that every member understands their fundamental legal right to refuse unsafe work.

AMAPCEO has consistently advocated for stronger health and safety protections. By calling on the provincial government to modernize the Employment Standards Act to legislate permanent paid sick days, and by emphasizing the important role flexible work can play in supporting greater work-life balance and overall mental health, we continue our fight for the health, safety and wellness of all workers.
On this National Day of Mourning, we remember those who have died, were injured or became ill from their job. We commit to workplaces where all employees feel safe, hoping for the protection of workers and prevention of further workplace tragedies.
