OPS Bargaining Update: It’s time to stand together

Queen's Park
President's Message

Monday, January 20, 2025

Earlier this afternoon, your union formally issued our Notice to Bargain to the Ontario Public Sector (OPS) Employer on behalf of all 16,275 AMAPCEO-represented employees in the OPS.

It’s the next step towards starting negotiations to secure a new collective agreement. We could be sitting down at the table as early as six weeks from now.

Your OPS Bargaining Team is ready and I know we’ll all stand behind them — together.

We’ve won by standing together.

Together, we defeated Bill 124.

Together, we defended our rights to flexible work.

And when the Employer disrespected us by unilaterally withholding our negotiated wage increases, we stood up to them and together, we demanded better.

Now, together, we’re going to show the Employer that we’ll fight for what we deserve: a fair deal that protects Ontario’s public services and the professionals who deliver them.

The cost of living is through the roof. Everything from mortgages, to rent, to groceries, is more expensive than ever, and our wages haven’t kept pace. We deserve a fair deal that helps close that gap.

Benefits plans provide the care that keeps us healthy and working. But our benefits pale in comparison to those of other public sector professionals, let alone the private sector. We deserve a fair deal that includes improved benefits for all.

We’ve made it clear that we’re more than capable of working for Ontario from anywhere, and that flexibility on where and when we work improves the workplace for everyone. We deserve a fair deal that maintains the flexibility we need.

We keep up with the ever-changing needs of government and the public we serve. But the reality for too many of us—forced to work contract after contract—is unfair. We deserve a fair deal that provides more security and stability.

Today, we let the OPS Employer know that we’re ready to stand together for a fair deal that achieves all of this, and more.

Our current AMAPCEO–OPS Collective Agreement runs until March 31, 2025.  The terms and conditions of this agreement will remain frozen in place until a new contract comes into effect. Learn more about the bargaining process here.

Over the weeks ahead, your OPS Bargaining Team will be asking you to take action to show the Employer that we’re standing together for better. These actions will strengthen our position at the bargaining table. Stay tuned for more.

Let’s stand together again for a fair deal that protects our public services and the professionals who deliver them.

Stronger together,

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
