AMAPCEO members in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) are being encouraged to check any insurance claims they have made for orthotic appliances.
The AMAPCEO–OPS Collective Agreement covers corrective shoe inserts at 100% the cost to a maximum of $500 a year.
The union has identified a trend in which Canada Life has been reimbursing OPS members below the $500 maximum by applying “reasonable and customary” limits.
Not only is this a violation of the AMAPCEO–OPS Collective Agreement, but the insurer’s limit is unreasonable and not reflective of the true cost of these items.
If Canada Life has limited your orthotic claim to an amount below $500, please contact them and ask them to reassess the claim. If they refuse to reassess, or they’re not responsive, please contact an AMAPCEO Workplace Representative.
