Introduction

A pension can be an important component of your retirement security, and it's one advantage of being a unionized public sector professional.

Defined benefit pension plans pool contributions from you and your Employer in a pension fund. These funds are then invested, and when you retire, provide you with a secure and predictable income.

The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) is the pension for AMAPCEO members at Public Health Ontario, although some long-term members may have been grandparented into the Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP).

Eligibility

Regular employees

  • Full-time employees and part-time employees must contribute to HOOPP.

Fixed term contract employees

  • Fixed term employees have the option of joining HOOPP at any time during their contract. For more information, please contact the plan provider and your HR representative at Public Health Ontario.

Grandparented employees

  • Members who were employed by the Ontario Public Service when the unit was divested into Public Health Ontario are members of the Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP). For more information, or assistance with the PSPP, please contact Plan administrator Ontario Pension Board (OPB).

Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

HOOPP is a major multi-employer defined benefit pension plan for Ontario's hospital and community-based healthcare sector.
