Preamble
The Board of Directors first struck an Education Committee in 2015 for the purpose of embedding a culture of education within the union, its membership, and its activist base.
The Education Committee, supplied with a mandate from the Board of Directors, then conducted its work between 2016 and 2018. The committee’s initial priorities were to assess the union’s educational programming, to identify and prioritize areas for design, development, and delivery, and to create a framework and learning plan that would guide activists’ educational progression.
In addition, at the March 2018 the Board of Directors Strategic Planning session, the following Policy Statement was approved. At its October 2018 meeting, the Board approved the Education Committee’s recommendation for Delegate Education Requirements to the ADC for its contemplation. In 2019, the ADC approved the Board of Directors’ proposal for a Delegate Education Requirements policy. That policy is now known as the Delegate Education Policy.
Policy Statement
AMAPCEO’s Education Program will be guided by a commitment to delivering a wide range of creative and engaging educational and training curriculum. These inclusive and accessible opportunities will ensure that all AMAPCEO members can understand the value of their union, their role within it, and how their union fits into the broader labour and social justice movements.
Postscript
AMAPCEO, simultaneous to the actions of the committee, created an educational sub-unit within the Membership Services Unit, for the purpose of expanding existing educational offerings and to enable the implementation of a multi-faceted educational program that addresses the union’s needs for a knowledgeable and skilled member, activist, and leadership base.
