Tuesday, December 13, 2022

Last week, more than 200 AMAPCEO Delegates, staff, speakers, and guests gathered in Toronto for the union’s Annual Delegates’ Conference.

This marked a return to in-person ADC for the union, which had held its conference online for the past two years.

Delegates spent a busy three days attending workshops, reviewing and approving the union’s 2023 annual budget, and considering amendments to the AMAPCEO Constitution and several By-laws. These included a modernization of the union’s Resolutions Process, greater activist opportunities for Associate Members, and several changes resulting from a cyclical review of the AMAPCEO Constitution.

The full minutes of the conference will be available on the Annual Delegates’ Conference page of your Member Dashboard (sign-in required) in the new year.

Three candidates competed for the role of AMAPCEO President/CEO, with Dave Bulmer being re-elected with strong majority support from the Delegates.

This year’s conference featured a frank, inspiring talk from keynote speaker Diane Therrien, former mayor of Peterborough and former AMAPCEO member, on her path as a young woman navigating politics.

Delegates also attended a thought-provoking panel titled “Covering Labour: How Media Report on Labour Issues Today.” The panel was moderated by Randy Robinson from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, and featured journalists Vanmala Subramaniam from The Globe & Mail and Emily Leedham from PressProgress, as well as University of Toronto Assistant Professor Dr. Rob Gillezeau.

Finally, Bulmer capped off the event on a high note for all, announcing that AMAPCEO had successfully unionized the College of Midwives of Ontario.

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
