AWA campaign transitioning back to traditional request process; tool still in place

Wednesday, April 19, 2023

In early February, AMAPCEO launched its Alternate Working Arrangement Campaign. Central to this campaign was the creation of a tool to make it easier for members to request flexible work—a compressed work week, remote work, or both. The tool also automatically generates the required alternative work arrangement agreement and sends it for management consideration.

To date, several hundred requests have been processed, with many approved and with the majority still in progress. Some have been denied, and all are under union consideration for dispute with several disputes filed to date. The union remains committed to defending its flexible work contract language in litigation.

As of today, April 19, the AWA campaign will transition back to standard requesting procedure. The AWA request generating tool will still be available to anyone who wants to request an AWA. However, the dedicated AMAPCEO Workplace Representatives temporarily seconded to the AWA campaign to provide one-to-one support to members using the tool will be returning to their regular duties.

If you want an alternative work arrangement, we encourage you to go to AMAPCEO’s website to file your request. Once you submit your request, you are responsible for following up directly with your manager to discuss the request and to seek their approval.

If you experience any issues or need assistance going forward, you can contact a local Workplace Representative.

We would like to acknowledge Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.”

The AMAPCEO office is on the traditional unceded territory of Haudenosaunee speaking nations, including the Wendat, Seneca and Mohawk. These nations have been here since time immemorial and were in more recent times joined by the Mississaugas of the Credit.
