AMAPCEO members with fixed-term, temporary, or contract status gathered virtually earlier this month for a webinar covering a wide range of topics.
The webinar featured President Dave Bulmer, Vice-President Cynthia Watt and Bay Street District Director Rocco Fasano, along with AMAPCEO staff Gabriel Mehedintu (Dispute Resolution Officer) and Leah Rowlinson (Labour Relations Specialist).
Highlights from the webinar include:
Labour relations: return to the workplace, bargaining coming up
Bulmer provided a labour relations update to those on the call. He indicated that employers’ return to the workplace plans continue to be on hold, and that members will receive updates as any changes happen. He encouraged members to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible and the shots are available.
Bulmer also discussed the union’s preparations for bargaining. Members in the Ontario Health – Quality unit are already at the table, with six other units beginning talks as early as January 1, 2022.
Review of conversion to permanent provisions
Understandably, a conversion to permanent remains top-of-mind for most contract staff. AMAPCEO has negotiated strong provisions for conversion (or “rollover”) to permanent in each collective agreement. These provisions were reviewed on the webinar.
For members in the OPS, the provisions are outlined in the conversion fact sheet.
Members on contract who have questions about their status should contact an AMAPCEO Workplace Representative at the same employer.
