AMAPCEO’s hard fought victory defeating Bill 124 and achieving respectful wage increases will soon—finally—come to fruition. The union's members in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) are starting to see long-awaited increases reflected in their wages as of this week’s payroll.
The union's leadership met with the OPS Employer again Tuesday morning.
Implementation has begun
The OPS Employer told AMAPCEO that most members will see their salary rate brought current on the July 4th or 18th pay days.
For those with more complex calculations, it may take additional pay periods (into August) for them to implement both the negotiated pay increases and the Bill 124 remedy salary adjustments. The total adjustment, between both increases, is 7.5%.
They continue to say retroactive pay will be issued in the fall.
AMAPCEO pushed for individual calculations
At AMAPCEO’s insistence, the OPS Employer will make a report of their calculations on members' individual salary adjustments available through WIN over the next month. Some members may already see it in their profiles.
Again, for some members, the adjustments may take several pay periods to be completely implemented.
Come mid-August, if the adjustments appear to be inaccurate, members should contact their OPS Human Resources payroll representative. And if they are still unable to resolve payroll issues at that point, please contact an AMAPCEO Workplace Representative for assistance.
Our legal challenge continues
The union takes the position that the OPS Employer’s timeline on these salary adjustments has been unacceptable. AMAPCEO believes the Employer's unilateral decision to delay the negotiated 1% across-the-board salary increases (effective April 1, 2024), violated the AMAPCEO–OPS Collective Agreement.
AMAPCEO's union-wide dispute with the Employer over their decision will continue. A contract is a contract.
