OPS Members: Received a remote work denial? Enter your dispute today
If you received a remote work request denial, we strongly encourage you to enter a dispute on RADAR, AMAPCEO’s secure dispute tracking system, today. AMAPCEO has just 30 working days from when the Employer sent you their decision to review and formalize your dispute.
Remote work works.
For more than fifteen years, AMAPCEO members have gone above and beyond working for the people of Ontario—from anywhere.
The Secretary of Cabinet's decision to effectively end remote and hybrid work in the Ontario Public Service and in the province's agencies, boards, and commissions is a Stone Age step backwards. She is now using policy to force through what couldn’t be wrested from us during free and fair collective bargaining.
AMAPCEO is fighting for flexibility for members who want it and for a modern, innovative workplace.
Remote work works...
...for employees
- Remote work provides greater work-life balance and improves mental health.
- Time not spent commuting allows employees to participate in pick-up and drop-off for children, elders, and other loved ones requiring care.
- Time not spent commuting affords employees more time to keep up with domestic responsibilities, attend medical appointments, etc.
...for communities
- Remote work reduces traffic congestion and pollution for everyone.
- Remote work also reduces the burden on overcrowded and underfunded public transit.
- Remote work helps support local businesses, giving employees the opportunity to get coffee or lunch within their communities.
- Time not spent commuting gives members more opportunity to volunteer in their communities.
...for the workplace
- Remote work enhances productivity by giving employees an opportunity to work in a quieter environment with fewer distractions.
- Remote work reduces the burden on in-office resources, freeing up communal work spaces for those that actually need them.
...for taxpayers
- Remote work saves taxpayers' money—money that can instead be invested to provide Ontarians quality public services.
- Remote work dramatically reduces the costs of real estate, furnishings, utilities, and technology for the government.

Association-level disputes
To date, AMAPCEO has launched the following Association-level disputes and/or complaints against the Ontario Public Service (OPS) Employer regarding remote work and the return to office:
- On their failure to give AMAPCEO two weeks’ advance notice of the return to office edict, as required by our Collective Agreement.
- That their edict conflicts with Article 47, AMAPCEO members’ right to request alternative work arrangements and have them considered individually, and in good faith.
- That they violated AMAPCEO members’ right, protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, to display union materials at work.
- That the directions they gave to leaders and employees also conflicts with our Collective Agreement, specifically Article 47 on alternative work arrangements.
- On the unreasonable delay they imposed on responding to members’ remote work requests.
